I thought for sh%ts and giggles, on an early early Sunday am, I'd spec out a well optioned "drivers" 718S. Wow. It crested $114 CNDs, 87K USDs, but then again 991's can easily kick over 200 these days.
MT
PCCB
Sport Suspension (-20mm)
Full leather
Could have added more electronic doo dads and Burmester to really kick it up there.
P.s. Just went and added almost EVERY option available and kicked the price up to $156,490 CND / $120,376 USDs. Wow! The 911's little brother has really grown up! The question is: is it still a "bargain" over the 991?
Well historically the GTS is roughly 10k more than the S and the GT4/Spyder are 10k more than that. Figuring the 718 S base price is $68k... That puts it at 88k roughly for a six.
I tried to get as close to my current build as possible on the configurator:
981 version was $91K, 982 version is $96K.
Yeeeeahhh, good luck with that, meine Herren.
So an annual price increase of less than 1.5 percent per annum is unreasonable to you? For a car that's faster, better suspended, better braked, has improved steering response, is more fuel efficient and has an all new PCM/NAV? You don't think Porsche prices should at least track inflation?

If I drove on the Nurburgring for a living, I might actually notice a difference. For everyone else, 0.2s to 60 and a couple MPH worth of trap speed is in the margin of error.
better suspended, better braked
There was no room for improvement in either of those respects for street driving, apart from exotic active-suspension tech that's still only available in higher-end cars. I wouldn't have ordered SPASM even if it had been available, because the roads around here are already bad enough to give me back spasms for free.

Except it's not, but who's counting?
and has an all new PCM/NAV?
Agreed, I'd probably take advantage of any future 718 PCM retrofit Porsche might see fit to offer. But it's not the sort of thing I'd base a car-buying decision on.

Not when the exchange rate looks like this, I don't.
Heck yeah. The smell of a leather Porsche interior, with the feel of the lowered suspension, a rifle-bolt 6 speed MT, the ripping sound of the exhaust just over your shoulder and some PCCB "Hands of God" to slow you down = old school sublime. Go check it out.

Plus one! I love my full leather interior and I wouldn't have it any other way. While it doesn't enhance the cars capabilities it does visually enhance the cockpit significantly and adds an incredible smell to the interior which to me enhances the overall experience. What's frustrating is that at the price point of these cars the leather should be standard and not an option.

Sorry, I've never seen a race car with a leather covered dash...

You're making nonsense arguments to wish away facts you don't like.
BTW, I own two 981's and have no interest in the 718. But I'm not delusional enough to think the new car is anything but a better performer everywhere.
