Default Uncooperative Radio

Hello. I own a 1999 NB 996 C2 coupe which is my daily driver. With the key in the ignition, the radio turns on and stays on only when the engine is off. All controls work but it only works before and after the engine is running. Once the engine starts radio turns itself off. When I arrive at my destination radio turns on until I remove the key from the switch. While driving, the display backlight goes on after I hit the On button, but radio does not work. At first, I thought the radio needed replacing but it works great when engine not running.

Recently, I removed the radio and cleaned all the connections. Did not help. Could this be an ignition switch problem or a larger wiring problem? Car has no other electrical problems.
Thanks for your advice.
Cheers

Aftermarket wiring harnesses for 996's used on 99's often need two wires switched. If you have an aftermarket radio and the installer didn't know to swap those power wires, that might be causing your problem.

Do you have the stock radio or an aftermarket radio?

What type of radio? OEM CDR series or aftermarket. Can you take some pictures?

Failed to mention that it is the OEM CDR-210 radio.
