I agree... that looks pretty darn good to me as well. I think it's a worthwhile upgrade from the halogen bulb. Is it possible to get a picture looking at the headlights from a few distances, and to the side (simulating what an oncoming driver would see)?

I tried, but the light meter on my Canon kept shutting down the aperture so far (they are bright!) that the pic was poor. So I couldn't stand right in front of them, had to step to the side like an oncoming car would be. That said, here is the best pic of low beam and high beam I could get.

NOTE: You will see that on high beams the auxiliary driving lights came on. I had upgraded this 1988 to the matching-color H3 LED bulb that we sell in that position too.

Hmm.... yeah that's hard to tell. Maybe a picture isn't the best indicator to tell if the lights are blinding or not. I would have thought that the car would be much more offset from the camera, so however bright they may seem in those photos (pretty bright if you ask me), might be minimized as you move away from the centerline of the lens. We'll have to go on your word that they aren't blinding!

Like I said, they look decent. As of now, going on your pictures, the LED's with H5 connectors in an H5 housing seem to have good beam throw. A video driving past the 928 while the headlights are on would do them even more justice.

If I still had H5 lenses in my car I'd review them and post up a lux reading to get a second opinion for you. Might be worth offering compensation with your next H5 LED sale to get an honest review of them including pics and video.

Update: I completed building and installing my direct-power headlight harness which adapts the H5 plug to the H4 bulb. Hopefully will get a cloudy night soon to test the lux output of the bulbs.

Just curious if there has been any updates on this thread. I recently acquired some H4 lenses and was considering some of these LED bulb but would like to know how they performed.

Generally the LEDs will have better close range saturation but less range.

I'm waiting on a 3D printed part for the bulb cap, to keep the elements and debris out of the lens. I don't want to compromise the reflector, so i won't install the LED's until I get that cap.

Another member (Ed Scherer) was developing the cap. I have access to a 3D printer and solidworks, but don't have the time to model the cap... one of these days I might try it, but since Ed has already started the project I've decided to wait for him.

Thanks, what media were you planning to print in? Something flexible? or were you planning on using the rubber seal from the existing bulb caps.

The printer I have access to uses an ABS plastic media. It's decently high resolution for complex curves. The stock cover is done kind of fiberglass reinduced plastic or resin, and there is a swiveling metal clip that holds in in place which you can see in Post 81 of this thread. So, it needs to be rigid enough to handle the clamping force of the retaining clip while being close to the hot LED heatsink.

The design is simple... A disk of the same thickness and profile as the stock lens cover, with a channel that I can fill with RTV to make a permanent gasket. I'd drill out the center hole and shape it by hand to fit tightly over the LED housing. I can also make a dummy part using cardboard to prototype the shape and LED cutout, and mock that up in CAD so no modification would be necessary. The LEDs out there vary in design, so there is not a "one size fits all" solution.

I'd probably use dynaglass or similar to smooth out the surface finish and coat with rattle can high temp paint.
