I bought a CR, DE for mine some years back from German ebay for around 350$. I jumped on it and have not had any regrets, seeing the current prices and availability of these units. Mine was complete and the radio works great! However the cassette sound is distorted from wrong speed of the tape, not sure what causes it. I also got a aux-type of cable that plugs in to a socket at the rear, which I activate by pressing the ARI button which the DE-version has.
I have not been able to successfully mount mine, despite buying the original stereo mounting hardware, as they have cut the center console to DIN-size. Any ideas is much appreciated

Yes, I actually bought one from Jim Doerr The bracket in the back worked perfect. Problem is with the part on the sides that should fit between the center console and the radio-buttons, in lack of a better explanation. As the previous owner has cut to fit a newer DIN-sized radio they will not work. I think that kit depends on the console opening not being cut wider than original. Just thought perhaps I am not the only one who has run into this issue.
One that is cosmetically nice (silkscreening on the band buttons is intact), the amp, tone control, tuner/seek, and cassette all function, and is for sale? Yes, that's the holy grail for a type CR.

I may have the ticket for you. A metal bracket that uses the screws from the climate control and the indicator reset. I pulled it out of an 80 and while not stock it will do the trick. Let me dig it up and I will add a pic tomorrow
Oh yeah, the frame for the early radio blockoff panel. Didn't realize there were holes for the radio shafts in the mounting frame. FWIW, the blockoff panel itself is not for the 78-79 console, it itself is DIN sized, but it sounds like the mounting frame would be a good solution for mounting a CR in a DIN-ized 78-79 console.
EDIT: Actually, it doesn't, but they could be drilled easily enough.
You're referring to the U-shaped plastic pieces that clip over the inner lip of the console? A PO cut the lip where these mount?
Thanks Rob, I been looking for a picture like this on the web, with no luck. Yes, those are what I am referring to. And yes the previous owner has cut away almost all of the inner lip. The very little that is left now also has a ridge in the middle so nothing can clip on to it. This is a great reference for me on how it should look.
This seems like a really great idea Using the block off plate as rob also shows below. Do you still have this one available?, or have you sold it to Van D. I guess I could buy one and adapt it, but here that job is already done.

Sorry my bad, above blaupunkt cr2001 is from vin#029us. Here's another from #402us, which is also a pristine, low mileage example. Maybe there is an alternative to the extremely rare, expensive, Porsche cr radios? Here's hoping
