Default Aerokit deck lid underside paint?

Hey all,

Have a quick question, is the underside of an aerokit II decklid gloss or satin?

Was it dealer discretion if it was added as an option?

I know the gt3 definitely has a gloss underside. Wondering if the aerokit does as well.

Reason I ask is my wing is at the painters at the moment.

Some people may not car as it won't really be seen but if anyone has a definitive answer it would be much appreciated!

Cheers

All of the Aero's that I have seen including mine past and present the underside is gloss. The 996 Aero was factory....I added the Aero to the 997.

Thanks Pete, was hard to find a reference pic.

I made the (wrong) decision to go satin and they have now painted it.

I'm going to ask them to redo the underside in gloss. Just hoping I dont loose the detail in the part number

The two mk1 taco wings I had with original paint were gloss on the bottom.

Nobody will ever know. Drop it and go on unless you are planning on showing it or selling it as a collector.

My OCD got the better of me and I've asked them to gloss the underside.

They are using Glasurit paint too

So it will be a base colour and now 2 clear coats (one satin and now one gloss).

That should be okay to still see the part number? How many coats from factory, anyone know?

So an update, got it back today. Top side looks brilliant.

Part number looks filled in but visible so not happy. It was black on the underside already so I should have just asked them to clear coat it.

Anyone have any tips on how to remove the paint around the part number to make it more defined? Will post a pic later today.

Anyone?

Will it be destroyed if the paint is removed? Have read a bit about removing paint from plastic with DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. Anyone tried it?

The more you mess with it the worse it will look. It's fine and as long as the numbers can be read, it will add value to the car.

Yes brake fluid will work. But then what?

You can always take it back in, have them strip the whole thing and repaint it. And then it might look as good as it does now and it might not. Surely there is a scratch or minor flaw elsewhere you can go obsess over for awhile and let this one go.

It's just one of those things that really bugs me as it's the reason I bought it in the first place (the part number)

Anyone know what the lid is actually made of?

Aircraft make a stripper specifically for fibre glass and SMC material.

You might all think im crazy but it's driving me insane and im kicking myself you getting it clear coated twice because it ruined the part number...

Fiberglass.

Unless you want a concours show winning car or plan on preserving it in it's original format for collectiblity/resale(non existent since you have a 996 to begin with), I really think you're making a big deal out of it than it really needs to be.

Only you will know and for what? Another $1k+ worth of work?

I really do just hate how it looks it's exactly what I didn't want.

So I guess maybe ill give it a shot to remove the paint off it. The body shop will re paint it for free if I strip it.
