Default 10 minute radio install

New member with a one owner 6spd 2000 Arctic Silver cab with 22k miles. Looked a long time and finally found a creampuff and love it with the one exception of the Becker radio. Got an Alpine from CAI with the plug and play harness and literally took 10 minutes to install. Changed the display color to orange and now have USB, Pandora, Ipod and better FM reception. Bonus is the Becker sold for $170 on Ebay and the new deck was $389. Nothing to re-wire a true plug and play with the tools to remove old deck.

What is CAI, and what's the model number? Does the head unit have satellite radio capability?

That's a very nice add-on.

Car Audio Innovations rock! I have the same deck, plus some other goodies from them.

CAI is Car Audio Innovations, Roseville, CA:

https://cai-store.com

The owner, Rod Birch, drives a 996 that he's had for several years ... not only does his stuff fit and work like it should, but he's very responsive to emails. He actually understands the various audio systems that Porsche used in the 996 and will tailor product and/or installation packages accordingly. I used his kit for my double DIN install and it worked perfectly.

Highly recommended.

Great work hubdawg!

Question, does your HU automatically turn off when you turn your car off or does it remain on?

I am thinking of the exact thing but i think the Alpine just doesn't look right with the interior of the car. Darn tempted though, and replace the 3.5" speakers.

I wish those Continental head units had preouts to go plug and play to use the amp.

Did you use the oem speakers?

Connector C1 of the Continental radio provides line level outputs for amps. You'll need an adapter to convert the plug to standard RCA connections.

Really? The manual doesn't show that. Have you done it or know someone who has? That's good news if the case.

Thanks Dawg. I have the CD changer up in the frunk. Does the Alpine unit manage that as well? From the display, it appears to show you playing disc 4 in the remote tray, but want to make sure before I order.

I don't think it can. That is display is 'Track 4' on the CD.

It turns off once the key is pulled from the ignition.

Do they have any digital media player kits? Haven't had a CD in years.

This deck has BT, USB and will connect to an iPod via USB. Until I upgraded my whole system, I forgot how crappy compressed music sounds. I keep an old iPod in my GTI with everything at the highest bit rate. I'be been using CD's in my 996, just because they sound great.

It's in the technical manual not the operations manual. I found it online. But look at the picture of the accessories that is sold with the radio. You'll notice the yellow plug. That plug provides standard preamp output via two stereo pair RCA outputs.

Cheers!
