Help identifying aero kit rocker panels + compatibility question
Greetings
I'm in the process of shopping for my first Porsche (a 996). It has been a multi-year off/on process and I've finally managed to get my head wrapped around the variations between different years, and various trim/models - for the most part.
One thing that I've come to realize is that I absolutely love the look of the 996 with the aero rockers / skirts. I still don't know if I'm going to end up with a C4S, Targa or C2 - but I am going for 996.2 ('02 or newer).
That being said, I have a two part question. The first is, will the MKI aero side skirts fit a 996.2 with no modification?
The second question is help identifying whether I'm looking at MKI or MKII in the following pictures. After looking at the little pictures on Suncoast Porsche I feel like these are both MKI skirts on a 996.2, but any help confirming this would be appreciated.
I really like the look of both of these cars and would like to get the same if I end up getting a Targa or C2 that doesn't come with them.
^ I think he meant just telling the side skirts apart.
And Charlie, you are definitely on the right track with that color, errr, I mean car.
(A little Porsche secret - the guards red cars have an extra 25 hp from the factory)
One way but not 100% bullet proof of telling mk2 if you can't see the headlights like the pic of Triple Black, is by lookiing at the back bumper. The MK2's hang lower and have different tips. But even if you can't see the tips, you can tell by the bottom ridge that slightly protrudes out towards the bottom on MK2 models. There could be cases where owners have also swapped out this rear bumper but it is seldom.
Thanks again for all the useful info guys - and nice looking car Triple Black!
I definitely have been searching for one in guards red, primarily for the extra power that was mentioned above, but they seem to be very few and far between. I'm beginning to think the best approach is to shop based on features, mileage and condition and let the chips fall where they may in regard to color.
then one can assume that Orient Red optional paint code in 2003 costing $3000, must include the chrome plated hootter valves generating 30+ HP.
I've NEVER seen one in that color but it is absolutely stunning. Beautiful car! I'm at the airport now, flying to go pick up my C4S. I didn't get a red one (its arctic silver) but all the other options/features are there and the price is right.
