I know. No good place to place a detached garage though. Spaces surrounding the house is mostly set with landscaping and such.

Not parting this car out really dampens my chances of getting an early Euro S, either Mark's or another one I was looking at a month ago.

Quick flip? I mean you can repair the engine and bring maintenance up to date pretty easily with the engine out. Put it all back together and sell whole. I know these cars are not built for profit but it's a viable option if you don't get too carried away with the work needed.

Wasn't considering flipping it though. I was either going to take the entire interior and transfer it to my '78 or fix it and keep it. '84 with 200,000 miles is not worth much in the market no matter how nice the interior is in my opinion.

Another question for the mass:
Would using this interior in my '78 lessens the "desire" or "value" for my '78 manual? The current '78's interior is vinyl and ratty, and it would take $7-8,000 easily to make it worthy of the '84's interior. Hence, my decision to purchase this car.

Hoi-
I would move forward with your original plan. Take the interior out and sell the car as a rolling chassis. You should still have a really nice engine pallet that you can use to ship out the engine : )

The only question I have for you is are you sure it's an '84? Those door panels look to be pre-S style with the perforated hole for the single upper speaker. Do the doors have the proper pockets for dual speaker door panel? My '84 has the dual upper speakers, not the perforation...

AgreeD. Some must die so others can live. Put that interior in your 78.

Thanks Steve for the advice. The pallet is next to the shed holding a broken BMW wheel that was taken out by a huge pothole.

I thought that the 2-speaker door panels did not start until 85 or 86 with the revised interior seats and all. Pretty sure the car is an '84 according to the VINs.

Lastly, I may use the extra Euro S CIS engine and put it into the car, less the back seats, panels, and all. Just use ratty front seats from the '78 to make this a lightened up 300 hp beast.

I guess if you bought it with the intentions of using the interior...I'd probably do the same. Much easier on the pocket book, though the rear quarter panels are weirding me out with those "skin-tag" shaped speakers. Granted, the center console is different (temp sensor) too...but maybe you don't need that?

Yes, an 84 with 200 thousand, is what it is.

And, yes...all of this advice is coming from a guy that wants that darn radio...lol...so, keep that in the back of your mind while reading.

I believe this the "catch 22" with these cars...the bodies and interiors can be quite sound...and the car still doesn't have much value if no maintenance is done or mileage is high. Like mentioned...some must die so others can live on.

My 84 has single speakers in the doors, though, I've seen some 84 with dual...maybe an option?

Brian.

Well, emptied the car and found a box of new parts that probably is worth as much as what I paid for the car. Is JDS rebuilt water pump any good? Guess I would have to put it together, maybe?

Lastly, what are those "Honda" gold colored clips?

Need advice from the collective wisdom of Rennlisters.

Now, I have a commitment from someone in NYC to buy the engine with the cam gear failure and the L-Jetronic computer for a good price for him. However, the more I look at the car's parts, engine bay, and exhaust/gas tank and strap, the more I feel that the car has really good "bones".

There is no rust on the gas tank strap nor exhaust. The stainless steel exhaust system looks new still and there is absolutely no evidence of leaks-rust issues with the brake master cylinder and booster.

The million dollar questions when I am done cannibalizing the interior: Would you...
1. Put the Euro S CIS engine in it with added work to put in an accumulator?
2. Put in a Chevy LS conversion with/without 6-spd manual conversion (like Just Peachy?)
3. Keep the car for future parts for the rest of my 928 lineup? ('78, '82, '89, possibly an '80/'85 euro)?
4. Sell the rolling chassis (with the auto transmission) but without interior and headlights? How much may this fetch?

Thank you for any and all advice.
Here are the pics:

Dusty but not rusty

Really clean reservoir and condenser

Looks new

I would buy a new cam and swap it in and drop in the engine with the gaskets and other stuff you could have a running car for 800.00

this was a well bought car and its condition puts it heads and shoulders ahead of the blue car on your lift

However, the cam shaft spins freely and although I haven't taken off the heads yet, but I am afraid of bent valves. That would make a very expensive engine rebuild, right?

If I am going to keep the car running, I think I would consider dropping in my euro s engine instead, since I do have the original '78 engine to go back into the blue car.
