Default How lightweight can you make a .1 gt3

Hello everyone,

I'm inquiring about the amount of weight one could remove from a 997.1 gt3. Assuming factory weight is roughly 3075lbs, what is the min weight the car could get to (with safety gear.. I.e. Cage, seats, harnesses, fire bottle) with max effort lightweighting (carbon body panels/roof, stripped interior, Lexan Windows, lightweight racing seats/wheels/brakes/exhaust...

Could it approach the weigh of an early 997 cup car at 2530lbs?

Thanks in advance!

There was a post here about 6-7 years ago on the mods with net loss/gain. Do a search, and I am sure you will find it. You may have to piece together all of the mods and postings many members did here.

you'd think you could get to the cup car weight. the seats are big bang/buck, but adding back rollbar negates some of those savings.

I don't think a .1 is actually only 3075 wet ready to drive.

Plastic rear window and cup rear/ side windows
Delete sound deadening
Delete lower dashboard
Delete shift boot, trans tunnel
Delete Frunk carpet, contents
Lightweight battery
Lighter wheels
Lighter bucket seats
Kevlar door cards
Delete radio
Lightweight uprights and suspension components

That's going to be 250lbs off.

Carbon front hood, front fenders, rear bumper, roof skin, sunroof delete, headliner delete.

That's another 50-100lbs.

So another 300-350 lbs off total is cool.

My .1RS weighs about 3050 with 2/3 tank fuel ready to go (without me).
it's a lightweight spec (0 option car, light headlights, no washers, no radio)
It also has steel brakes, a rear cage, recaro seats, light wheels, light battery, light exhaust, light dampers, and a few other bits.

So, to remove another 300 lbs:
What CJ said.

Would you feel it? Yes. I removed (so far) about 200lbs from my 964 and you can absolutely feel it. Trying to remove another 100 lbs or so. Will it make you faster on track? Maybe. Will it give you a headache from the noise? Probably. Will the car feel lighter and more agile, I think so.

The limit on how much weight can be reduced is 100% contingent upon budget and how far you'd like to take it.

It's easy to lose weight by just taking things out, the art is in losing weight without hacking/butchering the car.

PM sent.

Agreed. You should weigh your car to see where you're really starting at. I'm going from memory, but my .1 was more than 3300 pounds when I had it corner weighted.

I have a .2 stripper (no sunroof, LWB's, no nav) and it weighed in at 3215 after having put on much lighter wheels. I was a bit surprised.

3075 might be a dry weight.

Yeah this is more accurate. I've got a .1 stripped and caged, with a few other weight loss items, and I'm still sitting at 2950lb with a 1/4 tank of gas. Planning to pull another 100lb or so out.

Complete strip and cage, including sunroof delete / replace with RS hardtop.

Taken prior to finishing the dash console (cf panels, etc.), but you get the idea.

They lie. Factory weight is 3300+ for a .1 stripper with 5/8 tank of gas.
