I just picked up a pair of Turbo Twist and need to get them shipped from San Diego to Louisville Kentucky. What do you guys recommend for shipping company? I am in no hurry. Thanks

Try SHIPNEX.COM. I shipped 4 wheels with tires from TX to SC with no problems for $120...... Surprisingly inexpensive.

+ 993 on Shipnex. I use them all the time - they use UPS for 1/3 the fee. Takes one day ion advance to register for Shipnex and you;re set for life. For an extra $7.99 they will pick the wheels up at your door.

fantastic, this is great info. So I really don't need to box them up. Just protect the wheel surface and a bit of plastic foil and they can ship that way. Interesting. This might just be my best option. I really appreciate it.

True, you don't necessarily have to box them - but a UHaul Electronics box https://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies...cs-Box?id=3461 will allow you to stack two per box and provides a little better protection IMHO. You can cut down the top of the box a few inches for a perfect fit.

I keep hearing that, but... I just checked on a shipping cost of a seat from GA to MA. The price was identical for NEX and for my UPS account.

So, what am I missing? Many people mentioned lower costs, but I've never been able to substantiate this.

If you don;t box, there will be an extra charge for irregularly shaped shipment. About $10 or so.

I would definitely recommend boxing the wheels. There are many options, I prefer Heavy Duty boxes from HD. Make sure they are Heavy Duty, though (orange stripe), the regular ones are not great. Two per box works great. Some bubble material around them, some padding between the wheels.

I received wheels and tires once via UPS
They arrived without boxes with the tire tread exposed but the face of the tire and wheel was covered in a foam blanket and then a double wall layer of cardboard, I recall they used some sort of plastic strapping to hold it all in place. I had to ship me back when they didn't fit, trickiest part was the plastic strapping

If you have a preferred UPS account your results may vary, but a quick comparison between Shipnex and UPS for two 95 lb. 24"x24"x24" packages from Boston to Atlanta has UPS at $187.88 and Shipnex at just $119.78. I've found the spread to be even greater when shipping coast to coast, with insurance Shipnex being close to half the price or less. And make sure to click the bottom box for the lowest rate.

Jim, something's really not right here. Not sure what, but I just ran a 24x24x24 package from 02110 to 30301 as you show above and got... $52.09 per package. Which is at or below ShipNex.

Even when I take my account out of it, the cost works out to $62.49 per package. So I'm really curious where they come up with a $187 quote. Oddly, to double-check, I just also tried it from another browser that is not aware of my holding an account with UPS. Sure enough, got $91.49 per package. Whatever they are quoting, they are not doing themselves any favors, that's for sure.

As I've said, I've never been able to ship cheaper via ShipNex, though I've tried. I believe they ship at account holder pricing and tack a small fee on top of it as they do use UPS if I understand correctly. And I do recommend setting up a UPS account, as much as I happen to dislike UPS.

PS. A damn race seat with rails, 41 lbs total, shipped fro Atlanta, will cost me nearly $150 via UPS. Because it's "oversized". I had a pair of heavy Boxster seats shipped from UK three years ago via FedEx for close to that, I believe.

PPS. ShipNex shows $98.78 for shipping and "additional charges", right? How they neatly added $21 to get to the "Total" of $119.78, I'm not sure.

That's what Tire Rack does. It's very effective. I've shipped a lot of wheels and have a variation on that theme. Cardboard, plastic wrap and packing tape. Total overkill, but it works!

When I picked up a set of rims in FL and needed to ship them home, I went to a local wheel shop and got some discarded rim boxes from them. Personally I would want to protect the rims with something more than plastic.

Another vote for Shipnex.

DHL used to have really good rates too, but haven't used them in years.

Greyhound bus transport is a very good option there are direct routes. I would not recommend for routes with transshipment - no tracking ability.
