Default Tips on installing an engine - Done!

Search was unhelpful. Lot's on remove not so much on install.

Have the 90 engine ready to go.

Any helpful tips? PS pump and reservoir are loose, A/C compressor is hanging and PS coil is out of the way.

Have a 3 ton engine hoist with a leveler at the ready, the engine is supported a the two lift points.

The challenge is getting the flywheel low enough to get past the bell housing. using the engine lift points does not allow the leveler to tilt the engine enough in the rear. Tried to use a hydraulic jack with a wooden block under the oil pan. I wonder if I should use it at the front under the drive pulley.

Another question: what do you do with the starter wiring harness during the install? Leave it out of the way or route it?

Thanks.

hi !

Could you possibly use a "come-along" to increase the angle that the engine is entering the car?
Say for instance, from a "fixed" point on the hoist to a lower point on the block somewhere?

lower the rack, and loosen the nut on the bottom of the motor mount. You will thank me for this!

Have a jack under the TT to raise up the bellhousing so that you can get the flywheel in easier.
Raising the front of the engine is slightly helpful, but this can be done by hand without any issues.

I deal with the starter wiring once the engine is in.

^^^this. When I installed my 84 engine I was having a hell of a time getting the bell housing to line up but then my dad suggested jacking up the torque tube. Got it aligned almost immediately once I did that.

The Left side Coil need to be removed, yes raise the Bell until it touches the Tunnel and use an engine Load leveler to make adjustments as you go.

I pulled the half installed engine to follow everybody's tips. Will take another run at it tonight with a bottle jack under the bell housing.

Many thanks.

Good deal Kevin. Glad you got it in. Is that paint or powder coat on your intake and cam covers?

Wait until you see the next set of cam covers and manifold. It will be done (hopefully) in the correct color for our cars.
