I wanted to keep my rear emblem, but de-emphasize the silver coloring. I decided to remove the emblem with fishing line, remove the adhesive tape, re-install new 3M tape, and then paint the emblem. The paint was Rustoleum Sunrise Red and I installed 3 coats. I lightly sanded the old emblem with 220 grit prior to painting.
