'Continental Orange', another great vintage orange from the early 1970's, was rejected by PAG after its feasibility study. And the classic & historic
'Signal Orange' from the late 60s/early 70's has not yet been tested for
PTS on the 991/981. So 'Pastel Orange' is still the brightest solid orange
hue you can get via PTS from Porsche today!

Apparently, 918 owners can still get anything they want? This car is sitting in the showroom at PoSD and they told me it is Continental Orange.
Just to clarify...it was known as 'RS Orange' or simply 'Orange',
color code 8C6. Didn't include the 'Signal' designation. It's no
longer an approved PTS for the 991/981, although it was allowed
to be done on a VIP's 918 last year. And in my opinion, it's one
of the most memorable (& one of the best) color formula for
'Orange' in Porsche's long history!

Am I thinking "signal" as in green? In any case, I thought my Cayman S was super bright and a great shade of orange, now after seeing Gulf and Pastel orange I am not so sure I don't like them even better! It's also crazy how I can't for the life of me see the difference between Gulf and Pastel. I thought Gulf would be lighter, but it looks just as saturated and deep as Pastel! Sheesh...

Well I am trying to understand your 'thinking'.
The facts are that 'Signal Orange', color code 116,
which is a historic/vintage early 911 color. It is
not anything like the 'RS Orange', or 'Orange',
color code 8C6, that your Limited Edition Boxster
S was painted by the factory. To my knowledge,
'Signal Orange', color code 116, was not approved
for the 997/987 as a PTS color. And for sure it has
never been approved as a PTS color for the 991/981!
'RS Orange', color code 8C6, was first formulated
for the 2007/2008 .1 997 gt3 RS. That is the first
time it was ever seen on a Porsche. Then it was
used on the Limited Edition Boxsters and Cayman S,
as well as allowed to be ordered on any 997/987 via
PTS (until MY2010).
Trust me when I tell you that in person, and to the
human eye, it's nothing like 'Signal Orange', which
dates back from the late 1960's & was a very popular
Porsche color in its era:

Photos don't do justice to colors. It all depends on camera
lenses, light conditions, filters, etc. That is why you need to
see both colors - 'Gulf' and 'Pastel' - in person. And then you
will be able to tell the difference. They are nothing alike!
918 owners got special PTS privileges...but also paid a hefty price for it!

Yes, 918 owners were able to get anything they wanted PTS...that
is for damn sure! And indeed 'Continental Orange' was on that list.
This is not the complete list (as os 12/2014) but what was shown
on this partial list of approved PTS colors for on the 918 is quite
impressive:
Not shown on the list above but known PTS colors to have been later
done to client's 918 include:
Acid Green Metallic
Arrow Blue
Pure Blue (from the '12 .2 997 Speedster)
Plus the super unique two color painted 918's that are
in a league of their own (color & price-wise)!

Eduardo strikes again! Well, those photos clear things up a bit don't they! Clearly Gulf is darker and with more red in it and Pastel is well, more pastel! And yes, there are many variables in how true these colors look when not in person. I suppose it's because of proprietary reasons but why these colors are not available to see on a Porsche ring/swatch/book for people spending 5 to 25K on PTS is crazy..

We reported over six months ago that PAG Germany has promised
'Porsche Exclusive' in the US (and probably all ROW markets too) a
complete kit of small car-like figurines with each approved PTS color
for some customers to see in person. I say 'some', rather than all
customers, because I believe only two sets were going to be made -
one for 'Porsche Exclusive' in Atlanta & one for 'Porsche Exclusive'
in Beverly Hills. And not each & everyone of you will be able to
visit Atlanta or Beverly Hills when ordering your custom Porsche!
Some of you might be able to attend a 'Porsche World Roadshow'
USA at a local track or a 'PCA Parade', where perhaps these miniatures
will be available for perusal by 'Porsche Exclusive' staff in attendance.
But I doubt we will ever see these kits at each Porsche dealer in the
country...but you never know! We will take anything they are willing
to give us on this score. As it is, they seem to be going the other way,
trying to hide the approved PTS list from most customers by warning
that the contents is (from July 2015 forward) 'For Internal Use Only /
Confidential', which if enforced, will prevent us from posting
any further updates here on Rennlist!
When I talk next to my contacts at 'Porsche Exclusive' I will inquire
how this 'miniature' PTS project is coming along!

Funny you should ask...because I posed that question
today to someone fairly senior in the 'Porsche Exclusive'
organization in Atlanta & this was the reply I got:
You tell me if that response is satisfactory. It was not for me!
I am quite sure that the reason that PAG has instituted the
'For Internal Use Only-Confidential' is because of us here at
Rennlist.
Just google 'Porsche PTS' and see where it takes you...here
to Rennlist! And here is the evidence that supports the buzz!
The 'Custom Ordering' thread on the 981 forum has over 100K
views! The 'PTS Reference' thread on the gt3 forum has over
170K views!! The 'Custom Ordering' thread at the 991 forum
has nearly 300K views!!! I have over 1000 incoming private
messages on my Rennlist account from readers asking questions
on PTS...and probably 500+ emails since I am available to
Rennlisters via that medium also. Many tell me that I have
played a more effective role in explaining & promoting
'Porsche Exclusive' & PTS than perhaps some that are being
paid to do this job at a Porsche dealership, or in PCNA in
Atlanta or Beverly Hills!
But I can not continue to play this role if PAG attempts to
restrict access to basic information on PTS, such as these
'updates' on the approved colors for the paint-to-sample
option. I still have access to the 'confidential' information
published since July/2015 because some members of the
Porsche organization pass it on to me because I have earned
their trust. And I will not post it on Rennlist until I get approval
from PAG.
And part of the reason I have asked for an audience with the
folks in Germany that decide on PTS is so that I can make the
case that we are helping Porsche & its loyal customers via our
factual discussion of PTS here at Rennlist. And I am willing to
go & make that case to PAG at my own expense. But I just
need the introduction to the PTS decision-makers in Germany
by the appropriate contacts I have at PCNA. That is were my
efforts are presently concentrated at the moment!
Wish me luck...for the sake of continuing to bring greater
understanding & clarity to this important subject at Porsche
...the elusive PTS option!
Simply awesome info Eduardo. And frankly, IMO as is yours a very weak answer from Porsche. Porsche is if nothing all about "exclusive" in every way. The have the ability and resources to make PTS a selling point. They should provide the resources to every damn customer that has interest...
