its the housing in the dash, theres a clip at the bottom that you need to push inwards to grip the end of the element. do it with some hard plastic of something though or you'll short it out.

Could be the ISV, but I doubt it. If it was the ISV you would have a very low idle when cold aswell as the bad running issues. I'd be more inclined to suspect it's the thermoswitch in the head...
