As a note to those following this thread. It is best to unthread the ends off the ignition leads and ohm out each end and then the wire individually. This can spot problems with the leads easier....

Why not run a 100 or 80 amp fuse for the battery and then have a high amp relay or solenoid (like the old fords) bypass the relay for cranking.
The fuse will then surely pop if a wire like this...
