Soaking with PB Blaster, is a start ( I use Zep).
I approached same as removing exhaust - heat, heat, heat is you best friend!

I put the axle strap/ tow hook on thsi weekend. Worked great ! I cut off the metal end and used velcro to hold is in place - Cost no$$! Appreciate it mdbickel and Mark!!
