The throwout bearing could be sticking on the output shaft at higher rpms thus it would take more pressure to push it and engage the fingers of the pressure plate.

Boxster keeps locking itself

My car keeps locking the doors. Today I threw the keys on the passenger seat and came back and it was locked. I got the keys out fortunately and kept them in my pocket and it locked itself again....

If the noise increases with speed of the vehicle and is louder when accelerating or decelerating but quiets when in the middle of the power band (or when coasting) then look at CV joints.
