A clunk and nothing else sounds like a hung starter. If the top starter bolt works loose enough, the starter can droop and engage incorrectly with the flywheel. Never seen this on my 986 or 996, but...

Less idiotic than the time I left the old oil filter gasket stuck to the spin-on adapter and made a helluva mess. Congrats on the start!

Welp, the event this year is a bust. Several "regulars" were forced to cancel, and the post-back-to-school date turned out to be a lousy choice. Thanks for your interest...we'll try again come spring!

Replacing the starter was sufficient in my case; the symptoms were the same as yours (starts fine cold, starter is really weak once it is heat soaked).
