Just as an aside: I removed my console last year to paint it and put in the non-smoker's kit. There was $27.85 in change stuck under the console from PO*. Paid for the paint.

My dream console raises the whole thing about 1 inch, so the batwing disappears...it also has cupholders in it.

I think if you retrofit it, other than a remote, the switch is the only way.

Pull the horseshoe and see if the wiring looks like it is part of the wire harness.
