Default PCA Club Racing Snell SA 2005 extension

PCA Club Racing extends the Snell SA 2005 expiration to January 1, 2017.
Hoping Rennsport will do the same.
Went helmet shopping at Perry last week....not many choices besides Stilo....Don't have that kinda scratch to spend on a helmet.

"Snell SA 2005 helmet expiration extended to January 1, 2017

If your Snell SA2005 helmet is still in good condition and you wish to do so, you may continue to use it in PCA Club Racing up to January 1, 2017. While the June 1 expiration has worked well for the past several Snell cycles, for various reasons some manufacturers are slower than in the past about getting all their models in all sizes on the market. There is no overall shortage of helmets with the latest Snell rating, but helmet fit is very important and varies with individual head shapes, and preference for make and model is important to many racers as well. The Snell Foundation recommends that helmets be replaced every five years, and racers with Snell SA2005 helmets should take that into consideration when deciding if they should purchase one of the many Snell SA2015 helmets available now or as the one they want becomes available, or change to a helmet of a different manufacturer or model which is available."

Love the fit of my HJC Si-12 and they will be available early 2017.

These posts and links from PCA Club Racing raise valid points.

The whole of belt and helmet expiry is already arbitrary (largely by design of the manufacturers). In a scenario where the manufacturers and SNELL can't get their act together to meet their own standard in effect since the start of the year - keep in mind they've had 5 years since 2010 to figure this out - some latitude for local participants would be only logical. If PCA deems it safe to race with a 2010 spec, than arguably you can safely drove with one in a DE.

And, I would suggest, it's already very hard to fit a tete carree.

What is the source for the citation? Quick scan of the rules on the site do not mention the extension, curious minds want to know

NASA racing is good for all of 2016, PCA Club racing to June 2016 - that's the last I heard.

I have no horse in this, my helmet is still good - but the principle to me is if there are unusual delays in getting helmets out by the start of the season, then it makes sense to grandfather.

No one is going to turn into a pumpkin between Spring and September...

Hot off the presses re. PCA Club racing.

https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...xpiration.html

Would be good to get PCA DE in line before forcing folks to buy "any" helmet vs. the one that fits them, or their budget.

Cheers

Matt

Stilo feels just like the HJC. Light, great vision, removable pads, etc. The only problem is price, 2 to 3 times the HJC Si-r I've got...

Posted by Apexperformance.net on our racing/de forum...

We've got a bunch of customers with helmets on backorder so I hope everyone adopts the extension

Lots of anxious sa05 helmet owners out there right now.

From Racing/DE Forum:

"PCA Drivers Ed will also follow suit allowing the use of 2005 Snell rated helmets through the rest of 2016. A communication will go out to regional DE Chairs, CTIs, and Zone Reps soon."

NNJR PCA says even for DE must be replaced by June. Conflicting info. I would not have purchase a new one- I love my Stand 21 2005- not that thrilled with new Stilo in comparison..

Hey Stan,

Should be at the May DE, it's the same week as the Spring Classic but i'm just finishing up my engine rebuild so i will need to put a few spirited kilometers on the engine before the race weekend !

As always, three month's work to accomplish in three weeks ... lol
