Default 900$ mandatory driving lessons and this is what they teach!

My child is 16 ! (!)

She is following the mandatory driving lessons to get her permit - a year or so program. Yesterday she came back home and said:
You won't believe this papa:
- They said that I must shuffle steer.
- I should be able to see my own car in the side mirrors
- I need to lift the steering instead of pulling down on it to turn.

Mad about paying 900$ for this ! But so pleased with the info she retained from all this Track talk around the house! There must be a new "you know you're a racer when..." quote in here. What do you say?

The You know you're a Racer and a Great Dad quote is:
"Listen to what they say, be polite, retain what you know".

Alain,

You already know what Olivia wants to do ... lol
Get another seat for the race car so she can start DE's next year with Rennsport

That is nothing as compared to the the exams my son had to take for his snowmobile and ATV licences when he was 16 ... they even made him take a friggin scooter licence
course so he can cross a public road with the quad and snowmobile ... he's been riding since he was 5 years old !

Cheers
Phil

Shuffle steer "might" make sense in normal driving condition.
Watch this:

Please, put her in your car at next year's DE. That would be so cool. She's already a RennSpoon member.

The driving school curriculum is heavily flawed here... You just have to demonstrate basic car "manovering" and you pass

...and then he goes on to say "I let the steering wheel slip through my fingers".... ya try that in QC going over a pot hole.

When my daughter took her motorcycle course, I heard, " you know what you learned from Rennsport about vision and mirror placement, well they teach the same concepts in my bike course" Appearently what is good for bikers is not good enough for young drivers.

Alain and Daniele have invested in two gems. These are great moments!

At least as far as Olivia is concerned:

- Cars and DE, good.

- Boys, bad.

She's also a great mechanic, you had to see her rewiring Alain's thermoswitch for the cooling fans on the race car ... she puts McGyver to shame

In the training video at about 1:50... "there is a natural tendency for the wheels to straighten out because they are castors like a shopping cart" !!!!!!!!!!! So that's what they mean when they talk about front wheel castor...
