Small wager with Dwane.
I had a discussion with Dwane this past event about his new (almost) 944 Turbo and it's current state of tune.
I mentioned that when he gets more used to the car, it's fun that he can increase boost and therefore, power, easily.
He replied that he has more than enough power "to kill himself" with at 8.5psi. My response is that he will get used to the power soon and then he will be craking up the boost like the rest of them.
He SWORE he would NEVER turn it up. I bet him he would...this season.
Now I know that by posting this I am shooting myself in the foot by posting this because he will be more inclined to hold off.
So, think he can do it?

What? 8.5psi ONLY? WTF?
14psi is safe enough for the engine. Even 18 when you use race gas... I know of a grey 951 that runs 16 on street gas. From 8.5psi to let's say 14, that is more or less 100 to 150hp, depending on the way the engine is built.
We all want more boost up until the engine blows up. That is 22psi... Short DE runs at 14 psi is very safe.
So when Dwane will want to play with you Chris, he'll put more boost. Most likely by the end of the season!!!

Was running 5 psi on the last day.(exhaust leak)
Our bet was 8.5 for the season!

So if I understand properly, 5psi is for reverse, 8.5psi is for wimps, men who dress themselves are at 12psi and men with hair on their chest and driving skill are at 13+psi and winners are at 18psi.
That about right?

I have hair on my chest... Well maybe not anymore since the engine is now in Cyril's car, but at least, I use to be a real man

Personally, I was happier with my car (and faster) on a tune I did myself at 10 PSI than I was with the shabby 18PSI tune it came with that dumped black smoke when the boost started to ramp.
It sure was fast in a straight line, though.
