And driving someone else's car. The walls aren't half as intimidating

Who knows, might even be a cure for vegetarians!

a willingness to understand and learn proper technique and practice this while resisting the temptation to "go fast" and rely on the car, mods or nannies

I did that well AFTER learning proper technique, smoothness, heel toe, throttle steering, weight transfer, vision and the theory behind it all.

Some good reading:
Going Faster by Skip Barber
Speed Secrets by Ross Bentley

A non-functional diff is a safety issue especially under braking. Motons, removal of rubber bushings and springs 'cause I was bored and Mooty, PJ and Dell told me to.

5 or 6 point harnesses. 6 are easier on the nads. If going with harnesses strongly recommend a HANS device

Seats to buy are seats you fit in well. Ensure holes in the seatback line up with the top of your shoulders. Have someone measure you sitting on the floor sitting absolutely upright and measure and compare to Recaro/Sparco/Cobra/OMP/Sabelt etc. specs.
