First DE season wrap up
Haven't posted much but I have been busy with my first year of DE which has been over for a few weeks now. Made it to all RSR events and can't stand the idea of going cold turkey ... all I got for now are some random thoughts and memories to tide me over till next season ... thought i'd share a few.
Very happy to have someone show me the ropes in the paddock on my first day. Knowing how much it meant to me, i was even happier to do the same for a couple of guys on their first day.
Nerves and stomach acting up every morning ... always followed by a feeling of tranquility during staging in anticipation of the day's first session. Ahhhh, peace, everything in this world seams to dissapear ... until some dude sitting next to me yells .... "What are you doing all the way out here" ... yup, i missed the apex by a mile at Namerow.
Funny how that turn 7 is off camber ... oops, coming in too hot ... oh oh, lifted off the gas too fast ... crap, did i touch the brakes ... great idea this PSM thingy
My first event = best two days of my life ... dont tell my kids ... im looking for anyone who's willing to tell my ex ... I'm buying
All sorts of great people ... all sorts of great cars ... seriously !!
Coming down the back stretch ... why does my foot lift off the gas when I don't want it to do so?
Last session of last event at LCMT ... got a different instructor to ride with me ... was happy to pick up some new pointers ... later heard from two other instructors that riding with me made his day ... dont know how it made his day but it made my day knowing it made his day ... does this make sense?
Can't believe how well organized all aspects of the events are ... the schedule, it's like clockwork ... the volunteers, for some its just their calling, for others well, they need a little calling
Humility and respect.
Worried about running solo for first time ... there was never a reason to be ... funny how one's brain can do that kind of thing ... this brain thing keeps coming up ... must be important!
1st event in solo ... trading several point bys with a more experienced driver ... wholly **** I slowed us down to where a bunch of cars are catching up. Last event of the season ... doing the same thing with the same driver ... we barely slowed down ... now THAT was a hoot !!!
Geez what a gushy experience this turned out to be ... must be a "new guy" thing ... I really hope the experience is the same next year.
Why do they do it .... why would anyone in their right mind hop into a car with a stranger that doesn't know how to drive and tell them to go fast ... why, why, why?
That's enough of my ramblings, but please share some of your's to help me get though to spring.

Hey Joe, glad you had a fun season! It is addictive, you have been warned! I was totally bummed finishing my season on a flatbed with a motor catastrophe. But I have been bitten and the only cure is to find a new engine. See you in the spring!

Joe - that WAS a great session. You're driving really well, nice and smooth and therefore quick and safe. That's what it's all about.

That was no autoblip and no heal n toe either Matt.
BTW I hope I remember how to make that rear end come around so nicely entering the esses ... that was pretty sweet !

Great posts!
i enjoyed reading the enthusiasm and the adrenalin nerve racking stuff we all went thru in the first events....it only gets better and more exciting.
i missed the last LCMT event in Sept ....crap.
just learned that we got the RSR events books at LCMT, so I too am looking fwd to 2019 .....with some new Hoosiers R7’s!
i enjoyed reading the enthusiasm and the adrenalin nerve racking stuff we all went thru in the first events....it only gets better and more exciting.
i missed the last LCMT event in Sept ....crap.
just learned that we got the RSR events books at LCMT, so I too am looking fwd to 2019 .....with some new Hoosiers R7’s!

And why do we ride right seat?
Because I get to enjoy the experience with you and I get to help you have the experience itself (hopefully a good one).
And to pay forward what my instructors did for me way back when - and sometimes still do.
