Somebody at home put it on the computer instead of Google.

If it is your case, just Google "ask.com remove" to find how to remove that crap.

Good luck.
Does anyone read my posts???

It's a glitch with the software, IB is working on it and it's happening very randomly for logged on, paid members.

I almost just about always read your posts ...

It's happened with a few of my posts in the original post/edit window, but then when I submit it, the final post (to me) doesn't have the link.

Hacker,

I do - and I thank you.

I suppose that I have no real objection to the non-members getting the links added, but I was perturbed that it was happening to a member. I'm not happy about advertising getting added to my posts, but I suppose that I just haven't noticed the random links that slipped into other's posts.

I do understand that stuff happens. Operating a website seems to keep getting more complex, and it gets even tougher when sometimes outside forces sneak in. I suspect that isn't the case here, but just a programming/operations glitch.

Thanks again.

I don't know if you want to know about more happenings, but in the "Winter Storage" thread that came up today, in several of the posts, the word "tires" had a link 'behind' it.
Inspecting the link (with a right click) showed it to be a WalMart ad.

No biggie, and I understand it's being addressed.

Only slightly off the main topic, Bertrand asked about Ask.com. I have found if one is not VERY careful when updating Java, an Ask.com toolbar will be put on your browser. You must decline all of the additional software that Oracle is trying to push. It is really mis-leading as it seems part of the Java update but is NOT. Just say NO!

Yeah I had it happen to one of my posts last week too. Was definitely a Big Brother moment.

It seems after 10 minutes of logged-in lurking (or posting?) and I'm automatically logged out. I don't get the banner and obnoxious wave files that come if I am lurk w/o logging it at all, but if I then post I have to log in a second time. This is annoying to a paying customer. Is there a way to negate this timing out?

When you login do you check he "remember me" box (this results in a browser cookie.)

Do you have cookies enabled (in general or at least for Rennlist.com?)

FWIW, on Firefox I have to login a couple of times per year...

These are not ads by the traditional sense. It's turning key words in your post to hyperlinks to IB sponsors.

For example, I could type in "water pump" and when I submit the post, "water pump" will be a slightly lighter font than the rest of my post and it's a hyperlink to a sponsor selling water pumps.

I think it's happening more often than people realize but it's so subtle and random most are not noticing it every time.

It's only supposed to happen to non-members.

I am using just regular old internet explorer and I can confirm this ^.
When I am logged on as a member, I see no embedded ads or links.
When I access the site without logging in, I see the ads and the links.
This has always been the consistent experience for me.
I assumed that is how it was intended to work...

Mark, as I understand it that is how it's supposed to work. Randomly it's also happening to logged on users. I've seen it once today, I refreshed the thread and the links went away.

Dave: Cookies are enabled. I sometimes check "remember me", but I assume that is negated when I log off b/c I do not allow the history to be remembered. Because of that I do not mind logging in each time, I just don't think I should have log in again if after 10 min. I try to post here. My handle is still shown at the top right and no banners are appearing, but IB makes me log in if I try anything beyond lurking. Seems there is a setting somewhere, could it be on my puter?

I just found a new annoyance with the "auto advertizing:"

The "Amazon" in Amazon Green Metallic in my signature is now a link to amazon.com - at least some of the time.

Seriously? Good grief!

I think Rennlist should offset my membership fee with the fractional cent of revenue from each click-through from my signature.
