Hacker reveals he has two distinct personas, Relationship Hacker and Independent Hacker. Relationship Hacker, he explains, is the conscientious personality he feels forced to adopt in the presence of his wife Lorelei. Independent Hacker, on the other hand, is the "real" Hacker. Independent Hacker is composed of a subset of personalities, such as Movie Hacker, Coffee Shop Hacker, Liar Hacker, and Bawdy Hacker. Independent Hacker is the Hacker that Rennlist knows and grew up with. Hacker worries that if Lorelei starts socializing with the group, his two worlds will irrevocably collide, resulting in Relationship Hacker "killing" Independent Hacker. Paraphrasing Abraham Lincoln, he declares, "A Hacker divided against itself cannot stand!"
