damn I know im not the smartest guy around but....

how the hell is one supposed to interpret the statement...

"the maximum size for your avatar is 300 x 250 or 96K pixels, whichever is smaller..."

think on it for a second...

wross996tt 06-02-2006 10:19 PM

This is the quote:

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 250 by 300 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). I think this is self explantory

black/terra 06-03-2006 12:02 AM

OK so if your image ia 300 x 250 but the size is 1K

the maximum size is 1K?

boolala 06-03-2006 12:08 AM

No. A color jpg does not have only 1 bit per pixel. Much more than that.

black/terra 06-03-2006 12:25 AM

i know that

it was a hypothetical to illustrate the parodox.

The point is my avatar is 300 x 250 and its saying its too big so I guess i have to try to simplify the colors

Make sure that you set the resolution of the JPEG or GIF to 72 dpi (screen resolution.)

If you're saving as a JPEG and the output file is too big, try setting the image quality to "medium" instead of "high" (medium quality loses some detail but has better compression and produces smaller output files.)

What paradox? If the image meets the dimensional requirements, but requires too much "disk space/memory" then you need to downsize it (as suggested above). If the disk space is small enough, but the dimensions are too big...you need to down size it (it takes up too much real estate)...what paradox? (these are two different specifications).

JFScheck 06-03-2006 01:37 AM

You can have the picture at the same resolution but increase the jpeg compression to make the file smaller...

black/terra 06-03-2006 11:32 AM

the paradox is...

"whichever is smaller..." its a qualification that cant make sense if you study it

ohsixx 06-03-2006 12:10 PM

"whichever" is a word?

black/terra 06-03-2006 02:32 PM

thank you Icon....

I was too tired to explain

Vancouver83LTD 06-03-2006 03:10 PM

I don't get it because my former avatar was a LOT bigger
i think if you host it offline, at like, www.imageshack.us or photobucket.com you can make it bigger.

brett,

still limited by 250px wide x 300px tall even when linking!
i have seen bigger ones though, that may have been put in place b/f the max's were set.

best
jeff

When you folks figure out what the problem is - could one of you send me an e-mail on the "condensed version of the Avatar fix"?

This statement "The maximum size of your custom image is 250 by 300 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)".. makes perfect sense to me....??

But what do I know - I only host and program this site....

;)

Thank you.....
