pictures in old threads
when I look at some old threads from 2003 I just see

Those pictures that were uploaded in 2003 are now about 3 years old. The "upload" directory gets "purged" from photos posted over 12 months ago, as they take about 18GB each year in new uploads.
In short - yes "I have a clue".
