Malicious advertising takes over mobile browser on linking to rennlist

Advertising that tries to install malware pops up whenever someone tries to access rennlist from a mobile browser. It takes over the browser and is a total PITA. Please remove this malicious attack on your user's phones. It is nasty.

Are you using Chrome on an Android device? This is not our site, but nefarious advertisers taking advantages of weaknesses in the Android OS/Chrome.

you can go this URL in your browser and change the highlighted option to "Enabled": CHROME and that will prevent this from happening in the future.

Advertisers you are supposed to be vetting.

Whih URL?

Well that word above is supposed to be "Which" but because of the way the text editor works doesn't work I'm unable to figure out how to fix the spelling and spellcheck doesn't work either.

However, it is nice that you've added strike-through font, which really allows me to stretch my sarcasm here, something I've been hindered with on Rennlist for years.

Someone's in a bit of a mood tonight.

:roflmao:

I implemented the Enable at the source link provided earlier and it stopped the malicious popups from appearing.

However, it's now a couple weeks later and they have returned.

Using that source link again shows the function is still set to Enabled.

Any additional suggestions, Robb?

Robb M. 11-26-2017 01:45 PM

Yes, Randy. Flush your Android down the toilet and buy an Apple Device.

Wonderful.

My original reply was "Oh That's helpful technical advice." But the unbelievable technical acumen at IB and their reliance on Apple and nothing else actually put in a previous post instead of the post I typed.

SidViscous 11-27-2017 04:13 AM

So am I correct in ascertaining. that Reenlist isn't supported in anything other than an Apple products?

Robb,
i use iOS devices almost exclusively but they do nothing to mitigate the unbridled suckiness that is the new format of Rennlist.

That's another way to encourage you to buy Apple.

So as not to be completely worthless, my free technical device today . . . if the problem is Chrome on Android, download and use a different browser. They exist, and they are free - so might be a little cheaper than getting an Apple device.

FWIW, on my Android devices, I only use Firefox or Opera, no problems so far.

Robb M. 11-27-2017 09:46 AM

I was replying facetiously to Randy specifically.

If you are still having re-direct ads happen on your Android devices, please take screenshots and if possible post the click through URLs in this thread for me to pass along. The issue unfortunately is Android/Chrome is insecure, and narrowing down which ad unit, or advertiser, or third-party that is taking advantage of that is difficult at best.

cheers,
robb

It was very well done,
since Randy is famous for the phrase, "Get a . . . ." (Mac) in any Windows-related issues threads :p

Robb, this has started happening very frequently on my iPhone running Safari in latest iOS. Horrible ad pops up over the forum and I have to close the tab and then revisit the site to get out of it. So it is not Android-only, I am afraid.
