Dear John,
The only advice I can offer is have fun. You do not sort of provide any details of when you are going to arrive etc. Are you part of a group?
Bring with you a small FM radio. This way you can listen to the English Le Mans radio station (starts up on Wednesday I think) and that keeps you informed.
Wear a good pair of walking shoes.
As with any major event food and drink is not cheap at the track.
If you are part of a group or a VIP package the people will look after you. The wrist bands you receive are vitally important and once on leave them on until the whole show is over.
Try to get around the area if you can. The famous Hotel La France is one place to visit.
Again I do not have sufficient info from yourself to give more details. If you would like to drop me a pm with more info I could possibly be more specific. You will need transport to get around. Traffic can be horrendous as well.
Hopefully you will have the time to meet up. I can give you my mobile number if you would like to contact me.
Regardless have lots of fun and remember that sleeping is for after the race
