I got a scissors lift for 'the project' and it was invaluable. It sat on the concrete floor and has a high of about 4". I built ramps on either side to create clearance underneath. The lift has four retractable hinged arms to position it under the lifting points. Cost was about $1700 -10 years ago. OMG that long ago?
I went with Bendpak, shipped out of Vancouver but freight is included. I went with them because I wanted a 2 post for wrenching and a four post for storage, their widths worked the best for my garage. They have been in since the fall and have worked great.

See Burkey's pic. That weird shaped thing with the yellow top is a cap that will be on both sides protecting the pulley and cables.
Make very sure you get a lift that is wide enough between these two caps to accommodate 2 inches (at least) on either side of your rear tires.
I was looking at Bendpak, direct lift and lift superstore. Went with the superstore, certified 8000lb lift. Make sure you get a centre jack, great for tires and other work. See the site for garage and sizing. Del and installed by them, support local business with a good product.

What vehicle, if any you may store under and the height of said vehicle and the ceiling available within your garage will determine which height lift will suit your needs.
I'm thinking that in your case it's primary use is storage so 4 post would be the way to go.
Simple drive on, drive off scenario.
Here is my Max Jax with a 5100 lb Mercedes Bluetec at full extension. In case anyone is wondering how tough they are. The only thing I wish it had are ratchet locks and a better pressure equalization valve, sometimes both sides don't lift perfectly even.
