thinking about getting all seasons for the boxster
My name is not Lance.
There is only so much grip I can take before my morning coffee will spill out of the coffee holder.
I'm seriously thinking about trying a cheap set of Kumho 'performance' A/S tires on my boxster....
I live where the streets are straight, and often potholed, where I have to dodge the occasional pile of horse dung from horse drawn carriages that the mennonites use.
I'm coming from Hankook Ventus V12 tires for the past 8 yrs. My front tires are actually 8 yrs old, been through 3 sets of rears, although 1 set was really short lived due to not doing an alignment on my boxster after CV boot replacement.
Ecsta 4x ku22
Ecsta ps 31

I just had a set of Chinese tires put on my Boxster. Sizes were 235/40 18 front and 265/35 18 rear. Brand was Kinforest Kf550 if you want to look them up. All four installed balanced with tax was $500!
I was skeptical at first, but after driving the car it grips as hard as anyone would ever need on the street and the price can't be beat. Plus they have a nice tread pattern and nobody would ever know they were discount tires unless they looked at the name on the sidewall.

Discount Tires and Auto Glass, 13-2899 Steeles Ave W North York. 416-650-0025. Very small shop, no hoist but the guy works fast and didn't scratch up my wheels.

careful with Chinese tires, they have vinyl in them which makes them slide. Many of the cars seen in accidents are sporting chinese tires. Simply sells them too btw. I would find a used set over Chinese.

Last summer I went to replace my rears on my 996. I looked long and hard at the Kinforest. I ended up getting for literally a few dollars more the Falken 452. I know the guys at Discount tires on steels very well now because I've purchased quite a few sets in the past couple years. Chinese sunful winters on an 07 c class. Yokohama avid envigors for an mdx and rdx and avalanche extreme for my mdx.
Its tough because theres not many reviews for the kinforest. Love to hear more about them!

ran Yoko all-seasons on my ex-Boxster, came with them, worked well enough... IMHO, the BIG difference between the cheapy 'brands' an the name brand stuff is rain performance and wear/durability, dry performance is reasonably comparable

Thanks guys,
The Kinforest tires look intriguing, and cosmo seems happy with them. I do believe they do come in the spec 225/40r18 size for the boxster front. They seem to be advertised a lot on kijiji.
I'm a bit busy in the summers to be driving to North York on a weekend for tires (figure 4-5 hr roundtrip). I have really come to like ordering online from quebec and having them drop shipped to my house in nowhere, and then taking them in to get mounted.
I'll peruse the local kijiji and see if any small shops are carrying them.
I did find Discount Tire's ad on kjiji... Unbelievable price.
I still have a bit of time/tread left. My rears the inside shoulder is getting down a bit....

Biggest difference between KF and the other Chinese producers is that Kinforest actually makes tires in the higher "Y" speed category.
