For day-to-day driving, I put the Cayenne in sport mode. It has plenty of power and is fun to drive. Yes, I too miss the torque of the X5d for passing. On the highway to pass, the Cayenne drops a few gears, revs up, and slowly gains the momentum to pass. Certainly not like the X5d - the X5d just bolted when directed to pass. The other noticeable on the Cayenne is slow speed turn-in - it is not as crisp as my 991 or the X5d. However, notwithstanding the above, I have been very happy with my Cayenne base to date.

My trusted Porsche service manager told me to get a used Cayenne diesel if it became available. He said they are bullet proof from his experience. Just passing along if it helps.
