Default 6thGear's 2017 opener @ Mosport

Nearly midnight and back home but still buzzing from the day.....weather started out really cold and lousy with wind but the sun gradually came out and helped a bit. Lots of fast (not my Mini ) well-driven cars out there as well as a ton of race cars, some more well-behaved than others

But at day's end, even with constantly moving my brand-new tires around the car in an attempt to save them (failed miserably--I'll be at the tire store tomorrow), I still managed about 3.5 hrs of really quality track time and came away very happy for my first Mosport day of the year, thanks in large part to the considerate drivers in higher-hp cars who gave the Mini some help in getting by when the situation arose .

Kudos to the 6thGear gang for putting on another great event

(Disclaimer: no affiliation whatsoever--just enjoy this group!).....

Gary

Glad you had a good day.
any changes to the track from the fall?
can you explain what difficulty you had moving your new tires around your car to save them and you failed miserably? I can't guess what you are explaining here.

Gary - glad you had a great time. The C63 still has the winters on it, and the 928 is still in hibernation so I didn't join you yesterday. Will see you at a future event!

To me, track was as it was last year.....got on there and immediately went fast. No surprises, though I think some of the race cars that may not know the track as well saw it differently, to their detriment.....

The Mini, along with being hp-challenged (120) and aero-challenged (brick), is also camber-challenged (lots of challenges! ) as I'm running a stock suspension, so the (directional) tires take a beating; left front especially. Ended up running some of them backwards i.e. left side on the right etc. and still came away with the outer half of the tires almost smooth. They look like they went 15 rounds with Mosport and lost badly Having said that, the grip was fantastic, especially for a street tire (B'stone RE71R) and to me ultimately that's what counts. It was such that I could go through T8 with just the tiniest of lifts at the last instant before turn-in and it stuck. Blew me away...ended up with some decent first-day times for my car in the high 1:46-mid 1:47 range.

Now we kill what's left of them at the Glen next week--I need a tire sponsor

Hope so; can't go wrong with either car!

Will be up again on the 16th with Gerry Low's group--maybe it will have stopped raining by then
