I have no issues if they can fix it under warranty but what if they say this is normal and I have to live with it? What would you do?
Porsche will do the right thing. You have multiple years of warranty. Don't worry. Now you will have a documented concern going forward, if the need arises.

I have only owned two 911's and they both were quirky. I won't go into details about them but needless to say they were not perfect. These are complex cars. But at the end of the day they are cars.

This is NOT normal. If the car is still under warranty then Porsche needs to fix it. It sure didn't come tapping from the assembly line.

I love the "Porsche will take care of you" - good one!!

My 993 tapped like a son of a bitch for a bit after it sat for a while. And by a while I mean sitting over the winter

Go to the 991 board. You will get a lot more info over there to heighten your paranoia

Porsche always treated me very well when on warranty. Norden bent over backwards to make things right. That's my experience. Off warranty well your on your own.

My 991.1 tapped after sitting all winter until it warmed up. Pretty sure it was a lifter pumping up. It never sits longer than 5 days after I get it out for the year and doesn't tap then.

If my car was tapping after sitting for whole winter I would not worry at all. As a weekend car it's usually 5 or 6 days between starts and taps every time. I guess I can make it to be my DD.

My 991.2 TTS just sat for 2+ months in my hanger. It started and ran just fine, no extra tapping noise. You are doing the right thing to get the dealer involved sooner rather than later.

I really hope Porsche will take care of this and another issue with Engine control light constantly coming on. I don't want to go into details yet with all the problems as I want to wait until next week to see if they will fix it or not.

I'd be a little concerned if it tapped like that after 5 days also. I agree that it sounds like a lifter pumping up. Did it tap before you had the first oil change (just curious)? Hopefully they get everything straightened up.

Mine only made noise below 2k rpm. Cyl 4 & 6 were toast.

This is what I ended up doing 3 years ago when I was investigating my car's issue. After listening to a few other 3.6's, I knew mine wasn't normal.

I do not. This is a newer car and I would hope Porsche would figure this **** out. Then again, there are some pretty new Cayenne's with scored cylinders out there.

It's normal on the 991.2 if it is parked for a few days. Mine does it occasionally but it doesn't last long. No big deal.
