Insurance Costs

Hey Ron, not a TT but I finally dumped Hagerty Lant this year. Between the increase and the removal of the winter theft and fire only option I was done. Moved to Vintage in Lindsay, significantly reduced rate and really easy to deal with. Annual premium dropped $400 after the move.

I was told about the 25 yr rule but decided to call anyway. They can make exceptions given model and year and my 95 happened to get a pass. I disn't ask why as I didn't want him to dig deeper - ok good give me a quote and off we went.

One is a 2008 Shelby GT-500, the other is a 2010 Camaro SS.
Both vehicles have the engines modified.
They went to Lant/Hagerty after their insurance companies dropped them because of the engine mods.

State Farm (aka Dejardens) has no option to only keep fire and theft over the winter now either. These insurance companies are becoming less and less flexible. Bastards!!

Many are pulling that as an option ^ they all claim its an expense that they cannot recover costs on. If you still have the option consider yourself lucky but they will all axe it soon enough.

Interesting...I didn't consider this while hunting for an air-cooled car.

I have a couple of friends that insure their newer vehicles through Lant/Hagerty.

A claim on a car with fire/theft coverage is an expense they can't recover? The probability of incurring a claim on a stored car is nearly zero - which is why it should be feasible and inexpensive to offer this type of coverage. But I guess like in other industries, if one does it, it opens the doors for the rest of the providers to do the same. Who doesn't like more revenues (aside from their Customers)?

This is interesting news. I'm with State Farm/Dejardens and both my Pcars are off the road with just fire and theft currently. This is something I've been expecting them to change though. If that's the case I may need to consider looking elsewhere as well. I'll see what they have to say when I return to full coverage in April.

Did Hagerty drop winter fire/theft coverage on all their policies? As far as I know, mine still has that coverage, unless there was a single letter that came in the mail that I missed.

They did ^ my renewal was Dec 16. Vintage did as well but the annual rate was much lower for the same coverage.

My coverage with Hagerty still allows comp-only when stored during the winter. But my renewal was in Sept, so maybe they implemented the new policy after Sept 2016.
