Default High Mileage 993 Daily Driver

I've been a long time lurker, and read regularly. I have been using a 1995 993 as my year round daily driver for the past 10 years. I'm coming up on 290,000 km and am thinking about future plans. The car has always been regularly serviced with a lot of big repairs along the way, but the engine has not been apart yet, and I'm still on the original clutch.

The body has it's share of daily driving warts, but it still drives great. Any thoughts on what this vehicle would be worth? Would you restore it, or continue to drive and fix as things fail?

Before I got the 993, I used a 951 as a year round daily driver for about 12 years.

I also have a 1980 928, owned since 1986, and a 1988 911, owned since 1990. Those two get stored for the winter.

It's going to be really hard to sell a car with mileage like that, because there are so many unknowns for a potential buyer. Presumably you know the car quite well if you've had it 10 years, so they're not unknowns to you, but it's next to impossible to convince someone else of that.

If there are no signs of work being needed on the engine, transmission or clutch (oil consumption, poor shifting, popping out of gear, clutch slipping) then there's no need to do it, however it's a pretty safe bet that a compression and leakdown would turn up pretty mediocre numbers, so a buyer is probably going to want to negotiate at least a top-end rebuild into the deal. If you factor in a bare minimum of $5k (probably more like 10) for that, and another $1000 for the clutch because "may as well while you're in the there", it's probably not worth it to sell it. I think you may as well keep it and use it as a winter car as long as the maintenance bills stay reasonable. If you can get another 100k out of it, that's pretty good for any car. At that point it'll be worth more as parts, and you might consider parting it out.

Keep doing what you have been doing.

It appears to be working!

Good for you!!! Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed.

I would certainly be interested in purchasing a well cared for car with high mileage. I have always wanted a 993, but the crazy price bubble has kept me far far away from even considering one.

I would love to purchase a 993 and give it new life as a 993 GT3 RS replica. Doing the work myself is what I really enjoy. I have always dreamed of taking my time and building a 993 GT3 RS replica, but the rise in 993 prices made me focus on other things.

Please PM me if you are interested in parting with the car because I am interested in giving it another 290,000kms of life! ;-)

Here's a target for you. My 1980 911SC went 375,580 miles (604,440 km) before the #2 cylinder lost compression.
Keep driving it! Porsche's should be daily drivers, not garage queens

This is amazing! Porsches should be daily drivers so I'm glad I'm not the only one...

We could be dead tomorrow.

Amen. My dad purchased a brand new 330xi when he retired, then got brain cancer and never got to enjoy it.

I just passed 200K this spring, now 207k. Keep on keeping on.
