For $2000... its worth buying. Now, you can easily spend $50K more to "make it right". But any 914 that runs and drives is worth $2000. Add some specs and pics here, provide an honest description of the rust, and it will sell.

There is a reason why he has two of them close in age... He most likely bought them as a project - one of them being a parts car for the better chassis and like most 914 projects dies off in a sad slow way under a cover in the back of a garage. The reasons being the cost of restoration and cut and paste to get rid of rot and rust and the sudden realization at some point that they could have bought a half decent 911 while only at the mid point of the 914 restoration. The hourly restoration cost (or your own labour) is the same per hour no matter the type of old Porsche's. The cold water to the face is always what a 914 is worth to the market place after the restoration is finished.

But... if you want a project and don't intend to sell the car or need a return on your budget then $2000 isn't too bad if you have an expert go over the cars to give you an estimate of what a reasonable rebuild would cost.

me, i'd stay away unless it was mint, 2k and 50k later you might have something. I'd rather be the buyer at the end result which isn't any where near the ladder.

Have a look at The Samba if you want to see various examples of 914's as well as older Porsche's.
