Any of you order a 718 yet? Should I expect any discount? Trying to fulfill my childhood dream in ordering my first new Porsche - so making sure I spend wisely and spec it as close to my dream.
I want a 718 Cayman of some form, but not entirely sold on the new Flat 4. It drives nice and sounds better in person, but is definitely not like the N/A Flat 6. Online vids pretty much sums them up.
I visited Pfaff, but they say no wiggle room on 718 and Macans. But others they have a little room.
Happy to hear other Rennlisters' experience. Thanks!

Was told 718 allotment has been used up to October. Bottom line - no discount.

I'd wait a bit for the newness factor to wear off...there's hardly any 718 or 991 stock in Canada period. Let dealers build some inventory then watch the typical Porsche incentives kick in...

I agree. I do want and ready, but don't have an immediate "sold" feeling.
Curious, are there people actually paying the 50%+ premium on GT4s? I see $100k GT4s listed at $150k+ and dealers say no wiggle room. A lot of change (for me at least).

I ordered a Macan GTS with not one penny discount. Regular Macans are still 6 months wait. It has now been what, two years that its been released? Dealers still did not build up inventory. Though I doubt the 718 will be in as much of a demand as a small family SUV.

Brand new GT4 unclaimed at Florida dealer. I know of two other CDN GT4's that also went unclaimed but sold quite quickly

Just test drove a base model 718 Boxter on Wednesday. Planning on ordering a Cayman within the next 90 days. As a lover of the 987-981 exhaust note, I have to say that the new car sounds much better in person then on the videos. A lot of nice low frequency rumble. Here's what I can say about the car:
1. The torque destroys the old car, even better than the S. The base car is now much more driveable.
2. Looks fantastic. Much flatter, looks much wider even though only slight wider, but still has nice P-car curves.
3. Steering is fantastic, slightly better than the 981 in feedback. I still feel the 987 (hydraulic) has the best feedback, but the 718 is closer.
4. The exhaust on startup and run did not sound like a stuperu. It has a nice, very low frequency thrumb like a boat/airplane at idle. People need to get over the exhaust note. Unfortunately, it will never sound like an NA motor, but it does sound okay.
5. The chassis bias in corning feels amazing. The chassis is ruler flat and go-kart like.
6. The car felt improved in every way and I drove it hard (my wife went with me on the test, not the salesman.) The chassis is very communicative and the roll on acceleration is so much better.
There you have it. I don't work for Porsche and I'm a died-in-the-wool NA guy, and this car is a winner. The 6 NA will probably return, but when you drive the turbo the NA feels so week at practical revs. This car explodes at 2k, with very little lag: there's no comparison for everyday driving.
If you don't buy the car because of the exhaust note and/or because its a turbo 4 you are missing out on a true sports car. The base car is a bargain for the experience you get.
When I go back to the dealer (once the Cayman arrives) I'll test the S and write something about it.
Cheers,
Greg

I am potentially interested in the 718 cayman base. I currently have a bmw 228i so no stranger to a turbo 4. I admit the sound in my car could be more, but with the ecu tune I got and the torque to make up, I am not complaining. However in 6 to 7 months I need a new car. Two are on my radar the 718 and the m2. Got a deposit on the m2 but not guaranteed, but I am in there as long wait. The 718 I priced out at several dealers with options I want comes in at 85K, didn't look for a discount yet. Also this car will be my DD and winter as well potentially, single guy no kids, most I would ever do in year for transport is golf clubs and I have seen caymans with clubs fit in them online. To help get feel I am doing a track day at Grand Bend on the 12th through London Porsche. Hopefully they will have a base model to flog as I am told most will be the S model. I look forward to this day!
