$799 for an oil change?!
i just came back from the dealership to drop off my 718 GT4 for it's first oil change. $799!? I don't even understand that. they include a visual inspection of this and that (tires, suspension, etc) and top off some fluids but $799? is that typical?
FYI. I'm in toronto.

yes it is. you aren't just paying for the oil and filter. they charge 2 hours of labour to check over the vehicle and make the report, that takes up most of the total. for me I don't feel like crawling under my car at 67 and also inspecting everything else. 800 bucks once a year isn't going to break the bank and I leave knowing that my car is in good shape and ready to rock. if you just want an oil/filter change take it to a private garage and take your chances (some are very good) or DIY.

Yep typical of dealerships these days, my wife's Q5 just cost $550 for an oil and filter. Lol and $50 to change a key fob battery. It is gouge city.

But I just got off the phone with service. I didn't really think about the price until I got home. I was under the impression I was paying for an oil change but found out I was sold a 'package' that included key fob battery replacement and new wiper blades. keep in mind my car has 1800 km. The price of the actual oil change is $685. That's parts and 2 hours of labour, ..which still includes all the visual inspection. The extra $115 was for new wiper blades and new keyfob battery.
I understand the price of ownership and that some people may feel like they need to replace their wipers and batter after 1800kms (1100 miles for those Americans reading), but I do want my dealership to be forthcoming and let me know of the 'options' available to me instead of presenting it like I was paying for an oil change and all the other stuff was complimentary.
Bottom line, the mystery of a $800 oil change has been uncovered. and I'm only getting an oil change,.. or what I went in to get in the first place.

Amazon sells name brand cr2032 batteries 12$ cdn for 10. Takes 30s to change
fob batteries seem to last a year for my 718 and my wife's alltrack. My 04 Volvo fobs are running on their original batteries. I think the difference may be keyless entry. I wonder if storing the fobs in a faraday case shortens the battery life as the fob is trying really hard to communicate with the car

And the indies are laughing all the way to the bank. I buy my M1 oil in US for $100 -1/2 what it is here, 2 filters at the dealership and $200 labour including brake fluid change so maybe $375 all in every couple of years. Fob batteries last so long I don't even recall how long. Change 'em when the range drops. Wipers - rarely caught in the rain so once a decade? One can see why some folks on good incomes end up poorish.

Select varieties of Mobil 1 are as low as $34.99 plus a $10 rebate (up to two per household) at Canadian Tire this week. I just picked up two jugs in time for an end-of-track season oil change.

All this talk of Mobil 1. Chances are the dealers aren't using it anyway. They use whatever the lowest bid was from bulk suppliers.

Trico brand blade refills were $4 a pair at Rock Auto and fit my 987 perfectly. I'd call it closer to 2min to change per blade. Perfect place for oil, cabin, and air filters.

I don't even jack it up, I just back it out while in my garage so that I can slide an oil pan underneath to catch the falling oil. While that's going on, changing the filter on top of the engine. Then I clean up, go inside to play with/feed the kids, come back out, put the new drain plug in and fill up the oil.
When they're asleep, go out for a spin and top up as necessary.
