Just like hood pins if the latch fails at speed it stops the hood from flying up. But nowadays it's mostly decorative

That's not what hood pins are for. They are to replace the factory latch. If those straps are only decorative then they are no better than those stick on hood scoops from Walmart. Do it properly or leave them off.

They can be used instead of but are also used with.

Looking good.
The straps even though the are just really bling does tie in the front a lot with a over good look.

I do think a nice metallic dark grey or dark blue racing stripe down the middle would look really amazing as well as tie in with the interior and silver exterior.

Yeah not sure about stripes . A little too Ricky racer. If I did them I thought I would try to do as close to the paint as possible so they were subtle

Which is why I mentioned a darker metalic grey/silver, but thinking about it, a closer shade of silver would also look good. Short of a ghost race stripe.

Love this one here in this pic on a silver car would look great.
