Sir Gary! If you were to instead angle the front plate at 30-45 degrees, it would act as a Mini front spoiler (TM) and provide you with some downforce at the front. At 90 degrees (horizontal) it would act as a splitter, but anything over that would generate some lift at the front, which may not be as desirable.

Thanks for that Matt. I now know.

Ha! Doug, lift/downforce/etc don't apply to boxes on wheels unless there's a jet engine supporting those wings

But the brakes last a long time

Do the border cameras look at the front or rear plate, when coming back into Canada?

You made my case. Thank you.
The only case I may have made is to explain to you the purpose of the front plate, which it most certainly serves. No one here ever claimed that it is used for anything other than regulatory and/or law enforcement purposes. The part that we (the other we, not the Illuminati) are having a laugh at is you trying to come up with all sorts of hilarious excuses like cosmetics, extra drag, extra weight, lack of stone chips on the bumper under the plate, reducing fly and mosquito fatalities and what not. If you want to argue and/or petition the Minister on the basis that you don't think enforcing laws is in everyone's best interest, that is indeed a logically valid point (as misguided as it may be) and may warrant a different discussion - but please don't try to pawn it off as some other lame and laughable excuse.

The front is the primary one, but they do have one for the back as well.

This is a fairly factual summary of the impact of front plates or not....a bit more complicated than you might think.

In the upcoming Ontario budget....

"The province is also reportedly looking at following the lead of Quebec and other American states by getting rid of the front bumper license plate."

Fingers crossed.

Haven't lived in Ontario since '98 so I don't really have a dog in this fight. Front plates are ugly no doubt, and there has to be dollars saved from a 50% reduction in the number of plates on the road. However, from afar that's not the license plate issue in Ontario that got my attention, dropping the "Yours to Discover" slogan did. That's a great three word license plate slogan. I'm not sure getting into a cycle of changing license plate slogans with changes in governments is a can of worms that should be opened.

I agree. Though how much this really affects us is questionable as most cars on the road have their dealership or some other licence plate frame that happens to cover the slogan. One of my car's plates were from the defective batch and started to peel. When I went to swap for a new set, I got the French slogan so I didn't have to get a plate that started with "C". Personal preference, but it didn't matter to me because the frame covered it. While I do also like the current slogan that we have and I agree that the slogan shouldn't be changed with every new government, at the end of the day, I don't really care what they change it to as it'll be covered anyway. Yes, it's selfish, but when people start caring about everything that doesn't rub them the right way on principle alone even though it doesn't affect them at all, they generally become salty and bitter people. We have some participating in this thread alone. I don't have to name names, they have a tendency to identify themselves.

According to the Star article they were adding Open for Business on commercial plates. Yours to Discover will remain on passenger vehicles.
