There are many many many other things in those engines shed metal.

I would change the oil/filter and tell him to come back in a 1000km for a filter inspection. It's possible internal work was done before he bought it and the engine is naturally sending some metal as a result of new parts (breaking in). It's also possible something is failing. Rechecking after 1000km is one way to find out.

I would also put a magnetic oil plug in there.

My thoughts exactly.. Car is staying over the holidays for IMS bearing removal.

I got the story, he said the previous owner had the oil changed before posting it for sale. Not much of a service history and that filter was a "No Name" brand..

Don't forget to finger the filter hole. If there is metal in there, the rest of the engine will have it too, especially the oil cooler.

Do shops remove the filter and inspect during a ppi ?
Anyone recently have a ppi done?

It's not common to do an oil change during a PPI and I would never allow one to be done on my cars at a shop I do not personally deal with, especially the 993.

if that were the case here, then the ppi would not be of any benefit.
I suppose the message should be to have the oil filter inspected if buying
a 996+ porsche.

You don't need to do an oil change to inspect the filter, just pull the filter and have a look at it.
