4 years ago bout one because I always wanted a sled. Should have done if decades ago. So much fun even though is an old one ('97 Skidoo Formula III 600). Whipped it into good enough shape to be railble. My in-laws live by Minden and I take the sled up there every year. Awesome trails that are well kept. Few years ago my brother bough a Yamaha ZX-1 ( 4 stroke 1000cc) that I borrow because he is never home in the winter but man is that sled fricken heavy when it gets stuck in deep snow. Most of the stock sleds nowadays are very heavy and are for groomed trails only. Anybody off-trailing gets them easy stuck because of the weight, even if they are studded.

The Yamaha has a Garmin GPS. Worth it's weight in gold. If your sled doesn't have one, get one.

.
Uh?
The sleds that myself and 1965356 are ridding are close to the lightest sleds that have ever been made. Sure they make heavier sleds, but the industry as a whole has been shaving weight off. The power to weight ratio is nuts. Studs are for ice and hard packed trails.
Yes the Yami is a heavy pig, but friends don't let friend ride them anyway. lol

How light are they? I'm not that into sleds to know much about the newer models. That Yamaha is fast but heavy as hell. Very good for goomed trail and lake riding but soft deep show is a "don't stop in it" situation. The really old aircooled sleds were super light compared to what they generally are now.

Dry weight for my 800 is 466 lbs. dry. I think it's 164 HP (2 stroke)
So that's 2.84 lbs per pony.

If my TT is 3500 lbs and chipped lets say 480 HP that's 7.29 lbs per pony of 4 stroke.

Sorry. Got carried away there lol.

Yes they are light. I'm pretty sure my 95 XCR 600 was over 600 lbs and was the lightest in it's class with around 85 HP.

Best snowmobiling I've done was in Revelstoke.... would love to go back. Spent most of the day digging ourselves out of powder... we sucked but had a ton of fun.

Would anyone be willing to rent me one for a weekend this coming winter? Probably the weekend after family day in February.

Rental rates on these things are crazy - I should probably just buy one.

I've been kicking this around for a while. In 2013 wifey and I did a guided tour in Algonquin and we both loved it!

What would you guys recommend for an entry level sled new? Not a speed freak but want something that can keep up, is comfortable for 2 and fairly reliable.

Thoughts?

The Ski-Doo 4 strokes are tough to beat for low cost of ownership and near bullet proof operation the 900 ACE engine family doo is producing is top notch. For two up have a look at the touring sleds ski-doo offers.

My wife had never snowmobiled in her life when we got married at (23) I introduced her to it on her own sled. Shes now an avid rider and drivers herself she would never want to ride with me.
