Default McCarthy Exhaust vs PSE w/ Sharkwerks

Anyone know much about the McCarthy Exhaust ( also know as Pfaff Sports Exhaust?) - Pfaff is offering it for something like 2000, half the cost of a regular PSE.

I think I found some YouTube videos of it, it sounds OK.

Can you turn it off with the push of a button?
Very important for my wife so she can "tolerate" the car.

I have the McCarthy/Pfaff sport exhaust and I love it. Not too loud, just right. Sounds great. I have gotten multiple compliments on the sound as well.

I had the McCarthy exhaust on my 997.2 carrera. He took out the mufflers and centre box. He opens them up and takes out the baffles. He then plasma welds it closed. He does this at home. No new parts so fit is not an issue. There is no button. Just loud all the time. I liked the sound but it was VERY loud. Much louder than PSE with no off button. I liked it but my wife and neibours did not appreciate the noise. Other than that worked as intended. BTW, I noticed no increase in performance.......just louder. You can just do the mufflers and leave centre box. That way it won't be quite as loud.

$2000 is very expensive for "gutting" the mufflers. This is also called the "Gundo" modification for the 997 folks.

I have one on my 997.1 and is outstanding. Even my wife loves it. Sounds the way the car should from the factory. Stock was too tame, this is perfection.

Instead of spending $2000 to "hack" your factory original exhaust, take a look at what aftermarket offers. SportsCarBoutique offers Cargraphic exhausts at a very reasonable price (sometimes on special) and leaves you with an option to revert back to stock for whatever reason.

In 2012 the McCarthy was installed for $1200. That's a crazy good price considering at the time a Tubi would have been $3500. I prefer to view it as an improved rather than hacked exhaust.

I'd like to add that I gave them the stock exhaust off my car plus 1200.

I had PSE installed at my dealer for $3,170.00 plus taxes. All parts were from Porsche and the system can be turned off. Price ended up at 220.00 less than if I had ordered it with the car plus I have a bunch of old parts including the exhaust tips.

Was done on my 997.1 by the previous owner.. Sounds amazing in my opinion and always got positive feedback. It can be reasonably quiet if you are gentle on the throttle, but sounds best when you really open it up
