Default Tires

Hi eveyrbody, I need help in deciding what tires to buy. Looking for 265/35 18 ( back) and 225/40 18 (front). I went to Pfaff and Michelin PS2 just tires 1,705.02$ + installition and balancing. Next door at Pfaff Tuning Michelin Super Sports 1,370 tires and installation and balancing included. At Tunning I was told that Michelin Super Sport it is a newer model better one. My question is if is better newer why it is much cheaper??? Can somebody tell me how this tires are or which is the best brand model?? Price doesn't matter it will be a claim going through insursnce.
Thank you.

Super Sports are better for the track compared to the PS2.

I think you have it mixed up.. PS2 are much softer and track oriented (tread wear 220). PSS have a 300 tread wear.
I'm actually shocked people think the PSS are a "great tire", they are not good on the track compared to the PS2 or the Pilot Sport Cup (their price point reflects this). I would rate them as decent on the street and very good in the rain.
The big benefit of the PSS is that they last longer than the PS2.
I have used all 3 on a 07 GT3rs.

since its going through insurance, I'd go to P-car Pfaff and have the N-spec PS2's installed, might be easier to deal with insurance because its 'factory'
Both are great tires.

I had MPSS's on the Boxster and loved them on the track! Can't wait to get the PZero's off the 991 for next year and get back on Michies!

PS2 is just a street tire. The SS are suppose to have a tread compound that just as grippy as the sport cup2 with better tire wear. Sports cup 2 are much better for lap times then the ps2.
Anyways that what I heard, haven't tried the PSS as they don't come in my size in 18's and I am going with a much grippier tire now that also has a good wear rating. Though the PS2 I had were great on the street. Though not even close to what I am running now. (Toyo R888 and Nito NT01's)

Ya Michelin has marketed the PSS as a super grippy tire, even their claimed stats are hard to believe. The name SUPER Sport is very misleading in the range of pilot sport tires. In reality the grip is underwhelming in the dry (not hard to believe given the really high 300 tread wear). A cup tire has about an 80 tread wear and is in a totally different league.

General sentiment in the GT3 forum is the same: great street tire, poor on track:

higher tread wear is beneficial to you. PSS should be a great choice.

Super Sports are new yes but not a Replacement of the PS2.

PS2 is still Far Superior tire to the Super Sport and its N-Spec (not that it really matters to most consumers)

However the S/S is the best bang for the Buck.

All of my customers prefer the S/S because they last longer and are cheaper

Only ones that buy PS2 is if they want N-Spec or know how much better PS2 is actually is, I prefer PS2 coz I know the difference, But I run PS Cups
