So I just talked to MB motorsports and mentioned you, they seemed to give me a very competitive price, there is a good chance I will go with them to complete the repair based on your review. I am going to get them to put in new liners (they don't have case halfs at the moment for the 3.8)......new pistons, updated IMS, new clutch.......I plan on shipping the whole vehicle to them and then probably driving the car back down after its complete.
A few more questions, was MB easy to deal with over e-mail? The man was a bit hard to understand over the phone as he had a strong accent. Also, do you think they will take photos of the process along the way ?

I dealt with Agnes his wife, she was easy to talk to. Martin is old school, doesn't talk much but does a damn fine job
Yup that's it

She also said that the 2005 3.8L usually does not have issues with the IMS as this has the updated bearing and only the 3.6L has that issue......does anyone know if this is correct?
I plan on shipping the car in about 2 weeks.......I will update this thread with the build progress
Once again thanks Zookie!

not true, the general concensus is that after march 2005, all if not MOST 3.6/3.8 engines were equipped with the larger/beefier ims bearing.
That's exactly what Agnes just told me, she said she will try and find a used block but if they cannot they will send to Europe to be re-sleeved. She said the price will not change for either of the options though......

Ok cool. Question for everyone, if my car has the updated newer ims bearing without any issues, is there any point changing it to the LN ims bearing ?

The larger bearing can not be puled without taking the engine block apqrt. So of you have the updated larger bearing, there isn't much that can be done without spending a fortune on it.

Update: The car arrived at MB Motorsport last night around 6:00pm, as soon as it arrived Martin tried to turn the engine manually with a wrench while I was on the phone, and no luck. He informed me this is not good news. He then dropped the oil pan and found tons of metal pieces from the cylinder liner, pistons, etc. At this point he told me the engine is beyond repair as everything inside is 99% sure severely damaged. BAD NEWS!! When I bought the car I called Pfaff who had diagnosed the car for the previous owner and they told me that the issue was scored liners as seen from a bore scope test.....based on the photos below this is MUCH worse than what they said.
Anyways, since I cannot find a 3.8L donor engine I have decided to go with a 3.6L 997 engine that MB Motorsports had rebuilt a few months ago and have ready to install. Although this is not the ideal scenario I don't think spending $5000-7000 more for a 3.8L for the 30HP gain is worth it in my case.
I just gave them the go-ahead to proceed with the install and asked them to provide me with photos along the way.

Anyone know what this photo is showing?

Sweet baby Jeebus! What were you doing when this happened and you didn’t hear any banging, low oil pressure before the engine locked up? At least one con rod end cap let go but this could have happened after the large chunks came off the block.

Yup I bought the car as a non-runner........I knew there was pretty bad damage, but was hoping the current block could have been re-used for a rebuild. Damage is worse than I thought so now option b is putting in a 997 3.6L that has been fully rebuilt
