always carnage at targa newfoundland. At the end of each day a car or two never make it..
Ballsy event to run.

Had a call today from a competitor who blew his engine and was wondering if i had anything to rent.
(i had a car but it needed to be serviced etc and in storage thus a no go).

My RS with odd wheels surviving Targa 2010.

Because I was distracted for a split second I didn't have the time to scream at him to get off the gas. Most of us know what happens with throttle application in a corner. The car just widens it's turning radius. In a heartbeat we were on the shoulder, in the ditch and straight into the driveway culvert. It was a pretty significant deceleration from 50 or 60klm. Figured I braced my feet on the floor and transfered a lot of the impact through my pelvis into my lower back. That smarted pretty good. Took me awhile to catch my breath and with the discomfort in my lower back I decided that the best plan of attack would be to immobilize it and wait for a back board to facilitate my extraction. They tell me I have a burst fracture of my L2 vertebrae, a broke rib or two and a little swelling in my chest from the seat belt. I figure the first couple steps will be an adventure. We'll keep everybody up to speed, or lack of on my recovery. Ricky Bobby"
Thanks for this posting. Happy to hear his head wasn't on the injury list. I believe that was his most serious injury when he had that incident with the truck. Rib and back injuries take too long to clear up though...

Best wishes to Rick and a speedy recovery!

This is a good write up by Lorraine Sommberfeld who co-drove the Cayenne with Rick from Toronto to NFD, a video clip too, amazing where that camera was placed related to where the Lancer impacted the culvert!

Any conspiracy theory folks here?!

Read the account from Rick and it just doesn't add up.

Why was a camera on that turn at that time.

anyone?...

And they decided not to sponsor them so Mitsubishi stepped up to the plate.

Just spotted this. Hope everything works out. While I never met him, I heard good things about him from Brian D (who I met when I bought his Porsche). Good luck Rick!
