Garage heaters. Looking
 

Anyone have a line on a good garage heater for natural gas? Looking around 45,000 BTU
Have looked at a few but ebay has mr.heater at a fair price. I would like to buy Canadian but they are twice the price.

The Mr. Heaters are available at Princess Auto.
Vent kits can be up to $500 depending on side or roof mount.

I called a few different retailers that deal with Lennox, Carrier etc.
Seems the average is around $2500 installed for a 3 car garage.

I have a Thermolec hydronic unit (in-floor garage floor heating) and it works great.
Installed during construction phase of home building though (as I'm certain this option, post-construction, would be far too expensive).

I have a natural gas unit like you've described. It's fantastic. Can get the garage to 80+ degrees F in 20 minutes. Make sure your garage door is insulated too. Helps keep the hot stuff in. Mine was supplied by Brenmar in Mississauga. No affiliation etc, etc.

I've been researching the hell out of this for both the unit and how to install it.
Don't buy the Mr. Heater / Big Maxx is what everyone is saying. They don't last and are very expensive to fix.
I went with the Modine / Hot Dawg as it is what the pros suggest and it was affordable.
The vent kit is 1/2 the price if you just buy it yourself, or have the installer supply it if not doing it yourself.
The used units are stupid expensive for the smaller units so I bought new.
I'm doing the rough in to the code of the unit and vent and will have a gas guy come in for the final hook up.

I have a Reznor natural gas space heater in my garage.

Works ok.

Has anyone gone infra-red? I'm looking at a system like this.

More efficient than forced air, quieter, etc. About $2700 installed.

I've installed a few of them but made by Schwank. One thing I remember reading in the directions.
The unit must be installed at least 53 inches from the roof of any vehicle to prevent damage to the paint.

I've used this natural gas unit in my garage for 6 years. works great and easy to install. It may be a bit small for you but then again.

We have had Reznor 60,000 BTU units. Quotes were all over the map from $1600-$4000 for the exact same thing. Price difference was negligible going from 48,000 to 60,000. I think we went with an $1800 quote and they did a terrific job. Other guys wanted extra to do certain piping and these guys just included everything. Worked great and no maintenance to speak of. Lucky to have in slab heat now but if we didn't I'd go Reznor again.

Garage Heating
 

I have humidity controlled natural gas forced air ducted into the garage with 600 watt infrared above the insulated garage doors for that little extra boost when needed.

Had a Reznor for 20 years it was terrific. However just moved a while back, put in a small 220 v Comfort Zone elec heater from Princess Auto for $169 a couple of weeks ago. Works great , has an adjustable temp control and three heat (wattage) settings. Lowest setting brings garage (not insulated) up to 65 deg in minutes on lowest setting. Small , hangs from ceiling , 1 yr warranty . Parts are apparrently available locally very pleased so far!

How big is your garage?? I have a 220v/4800w electric in my 19x19 garage and no way it will bring my garage up to 65 (17) when its could out. I used it last weekend when it was about 10 out and it made working inside comfortable but when its cold i have a 100k btu propane bullet heater that i fire up to warm it up first (make sure i leave the door open a crack so i dont die!). Now THAT really warms it up fast

I then use the electric to keep it warm but if its really cold i will still have to re-fire the propane at some point. My garage has 2 insulated walls as I am slowly working to insulate the whole thing (will prob take me another 4 winters to get there!)

I have a 900 sq ft. double garage. Insulated and original installation is two elec. baseboard heaters. Looking for an electric alternative that I can get some more efficiency (if possible) as n.gas not an option for me. Just want to maintain it at 5C or so and then up it when I'm using the shop. Ideas?
