Front Plate?????
My 911/50 arrives at the dealer this Friday. I live in Toronto. My dealer is asking whether to drill for the front plate. My first 911(1988 Carrera 3.2) went without a front plate and I wasn't stopped for 3-4 months. Then I was and got a ticket. I can't decide whether to gamble or just bite the bullet and put the plate on. Anyone in Ontario have any recent experience going without the front plate? This is a concours car and will see 3-4K/year. It is the first one in Canada and possibly the first in North America. I will determine that after delivery but I have called several US dealerships and they are unaware of one being delivered. As possibly the first 911/50 in NA I believe it will be quite special and the front plate requires drilling into the front bumper. Thoughts or advice?

I don't run one on mine, 'they' give it a quick look and move on, I've never been hassled or questioned(yet?). Congrats on the purchase!

I do not like to be stopped..both my GT3 RS were drilled from new. . Its a pain to be constantly on the lookout for police and in any case, illegal. However, its your car, so if you feel strongly about it, why not?. Since I picked up my last car at the factory and ran it in Germany all cars there require a front plate anyway.

would you not need an address to register it to?
i screwed on the plate bracket when i got my car, i dont think the 997 bumper looks too bad with the front plate.
you can always get an non-motorized aftermarket plate bracket that is retractable from ebay; if i do a 997.2 front conversion ill be getting one of those myself.

Awesome pic Ronan.
I wondered about the retractable plate like the Show N Go but speed bumps would rip it off.
Then if you have the front lip as well, it's even lower.
The tow bolt plate mount option is probably the safest bet.

Thanks for the responses. I don't have family in Quebec and you need an address to register it there. I can't use the tow bolt plate because of the front parking sensors. I agree with Ronan, if I don't put it on I'll be watching for cops all the time. I wish Ontario would save some money and get rid of them. BTW, Ronan, I think we met at the Yorkville exotic car show 2 years ago . I had my guards red 997.2S parked beside your GT3 RS if I'm not mistaken. The 911/50 will be in it this coming summer.

I ran without a plate on my F430 for 2 years before getting pulled over. After that, I ended up putting it on with heavy duty velcro. Don't need the hassle of getting pulled over when I'm in a rush to get somewhere.
On my GT3 RS, I got pulled over the second day I had it. It was drilled on by the end of the day. I agree with myw, it doesn't look too bad on a 997. For a concours car, I would find a temporary solution rather than drilling it.

Really? You can afford this car new, and you don't know one good lawyer who'll get you out of any ticket you might get?
In 20-30 years this car will VERY special, and some one will thank you profusely for NOT drilling it full of holes. Think if the positive karma!!!
If you're really concerned do something temporary. I can't believe there isn't some clever rennlister who's figured this out???

The look doesnt bother me either (plate installed) and i dont need the extra attention from TO's finest. Have a friend who has been nailed 3 times in 1.5 yrs and still refuses. Makes zero sense to me but hey do as you please I guess.

I never had luck without a front plate. Give it a whirl and maybe you will be lucky...

get the front license plate that attaches to the toe hook as others have suggested. enjoy the new car.
don't give them an excuse to pull you over.
seems a shame to only drive it that little...guess the next owner will thank you...super model in your bed not being driven analogy comes to mind
wonder how long it will take this car to appreciate in value? something tells me it will take a while. I think the 4.0RS is the only one in years (since the 90s) to be worth more than list price...fill me in if I am wrong.
enjoy the new car love the seats.
